Each student receiving special education services is assigned a case manager upon entering high school. Case managers remain with students throughout their time at LHS, providing consistency, support, and coordination.

Key responsibilities:

• Conduct diagnostic evaluations for students referred or due for re-evaluation

• Collaborate with families, teachers, and community agencies to ensure IEPs are implemented

• Chair and coordinate IEP team meetings

• Maintain student records and ensure compliance with special education processes

• Share and track bi-weekly progress reports

• Attend transition meetings at middle schools and postsecondary programs

• Support classroom modifications as outlined in IEPs

• Connect students with related services such as counseling or speech/language therapy

Our support staff members are integral to student success. You’ll find them working with students in classrooms, resource rooms, and community settings.

Their work includes:

• Tutoring students in academic subjects

• Helping students build organization and study skills

• Assisting in classes with note-taking and IEP-related supports

• Providing real-life learning in community-based settings

• Communicating with case managers about student progress

Jane Rice serves as the Special Education Department Coordinator at LHS.

Her responsibilities include:

• Developing the Resource Room schedule

• Serving as the Local Education Agency (LEA) representative for IEP meetings

• Approving IEP plans and funding decisions

• Evaluating special education staff

• Leading department meetings and supporting team collaboration
