Reading Intervention

The Reading Program at LHS supports any and all students who struggle with reading. Some students find reading to be challenging in general while others seek support for a specific reading need or area of difficulty.

The program includes Reading and Writing Advancement class for 9th and 10th graders who need intensive reading support. This class focuses on Vocabulary, Fluency, Comprehension, Metacognition and Writing. The reading specialist also works one on one with individual students to support their growth as readers.

The reading program works closely with Special Educators, 504 Coordinator and School Counseling to support students who report challenges with reading. Reading screening assessments are offered as a tool towards understanding student needs.

The reading specialist helps students and teachers access resources such as Learning Ally (audio reading platform) large print books, speech to text and text to speech technology and other resources to enhance reading success.

Reading services are available to all students. For more information, contact School Counseling.
