Student Supports

LHS is committed to our students’ success and has a range of intervention strategies and support systems. To access any of our comprehensive student supports please contact School Counseling.  Our students have DAILY access to the following:

Academic Block (AB) is the last period of the official school day (2:07-2:35pm). All teachers and paraeducators are available in their classrooms during this time. The purpose of Academic Block is to allow unscheduled time for students to seek extra help on a particular assignment, to get started on their homework or to make-up/retake assessments. Students may also choose to spend time individually or in a small group in the school library at this time. Additionally, any student, grades 9-12, may be assigned, and then required to attend, Academic Block by their classroom teachers, counselors, or administration

All 9th and 10th graders with a free period will be scheduled a Study Hall (SH) during their school day to support their transition to high school and assist with homework initiation and completion. School counselors monitor student progress weekly and if necessary will assign students to a Guided Study for a short-term intervention if they have fallen behind or are failing multiple classes. The Guided Study staff will also assign students to Academic Block to ensure they are getting support from specific instructors. Guided Study is also the location for alternative test taking.
