1. A student may select a Lebanon High School course for independent study. The student will work with the highly qualified teacher as a mentor and must meet all of the course competencies.
2. A student may select a course that is not offered at Lebanon High School course for independent study. The student will work with a certified teacher as a mentor or a professional in the field of interest. The student must meet all of the pre-determined requirements and competencies.

A student may extend his/her learning by taking a course online, through a college, or through another institution. This may include the Virtual Learning Academy Charter School (VLACS), River Valley Community College, Dartmouth College, or others. If the student received a grade of C or better, he/she will receive credit for the course.

There are an emerging number of dual enrollment options for students who wish to get a jump start on college. These courses are typically far less expensive than they will be after students graduate from high school, and are an option that motivated students and their parents might want to seriously consider. The program that is customized for New Hampshire residents is called eStart, and it follows the traditional college schedule with enrollment in September and January. Southern New Hampshire University also has a growing number of dual credit options online. For these courses, students will receive both high school and college credit. 

In addition, Lebanon High School is working with River Valley Community College to offer Running Start classes. These classes follow the college curriculum and are taught by Master's level Lebanon High School teachers. In 2022-2023, LHS is offering:  Chemistry MR, Environmental Science, AP English Literature and Composition, AP English Language and Composition, AP Statistics, AP Calculus,STEM Internship: High Tech Manufactoring, American Studies Honors, AP US History, AP US Government and Politics, and AP US History.

A student may receive elective credit for his/her learning outside of school. This may include dance lessons, music lessons, or participation in any other formal group. All of the requirements and competencies outlined in the student's  ELO plan must be met. This study will culminate in a panel presentation. Financial responsibility for private instruction lies with the student’s parents/guardians.

A student may participate in work-based learning through a internship ELO. The student will actively learn while on the job and engage in a personal project that is of value to the work site. The student will be mentored by a community partner and pursue his/her authentic work-related interests. The internship will culminate in a panel presentation. If successful, students will receive credit for the ELO. 

A Community Service ELO allows a student to combine academic interests with meaningful service that addresses real needs in the community. Guided by a certified teacher and/or community partner, the student designs and carries out a project that benefits others while fostering personal growth and learning. The experience concludes with a panel presentation, and parents or guardians are responsible for financial and transportation needs. A Community Service ELO project must:

• Meets authentic needs

• Is coordinated between the school and community.

• Includes and/or extends Lebanon High School curriculum and competencies

• Provides time for reflection

• Provides opportunities to develop and use newly acquired skills and knowledge in the community

• Enhances what is taught in school by extending student learning beyond the classroom

• Fosters development of a sense of caring for others

• Encourages ethics of citizenship, social action and true democracy

Students who wish to design a community service project may link with a teacher and/or community partner. A community service ELO will culminate in a Panel Review.
