LHS Weekly 1.16.26

Good morning, folks - we have provided, below, the schedule for midterms that begin next Tuesday. Classes will end at 11:15, followed by lunch, with buses departing 11:45. It’s important to note that students, grades 9-12, are not expected to attend school unless they have class. The goal of midterms is to provide students with an opportunity to demonstrate competency by completing a project, a final paper, or, through a more traditional final exam. The experience is relatively low stakes, with the midterm counting for between 10 and 20% of their 1st semester grade. With only two periods a day, the schedule provides an opportunity for students to focus, and maximize their chances of doing well.

I also want to recognize our students for coming out, and supporting our teams - we’ve had great turnouts at many of our games, and our student athletes have appreciated the support at all levels.

I hope our students, and families, have a chance to enjoy the long weekend.

Good afternoon, all - other than a flurry of activity today, it was a strangely quiet return from break. Students are buckling in for midterms and working to put themselves in the best possible position academically as the first semester comes to an end next Friday, the 16th. Encouraging your student to check in with their teachers next week and perhaps use Academic Block to ask questions, reassess, or make up an assignment would be a great use of their time.

I want to take this opportunity in the Weekly to recognize the Lebanon Girls Varsity Hockey win over Hanover on Wednesday night. To defeat the defending state champions for the first time since 2014 is a big deal. We want our student athletes to have fun and have the chance to be competitive, but there is no doubt that winning a big game can make a real difference to a program. To watch the girls skate over to the student section following their victory and have a chance to celebrate with their classmates is something they’ll remember for a while.

Thank you all for your continued support of LHS. I hope you all have the chance to enjoy the weekend with friends and family.

Hi folks - as I write, Winter Fest is in full swing, and students seem to be enjoying themselves. They’re a hungry bunch for sure! I was tasked with bringing leftover cheeseburgers and wraps to the staff room that were destined for the trash before the long break, and they were picked off, one-by-one, as I made my way to the elevator. I'm happy to see good food not go to waste!

Thank you to those who attended the Bonfire last night, and especially Project Grad parents who helped pull the event together. It’s one of the best things we do during the school year and despite the postponement, the whole thing couldn’t have gone better. Sometimes things just work out and we all feel pretty lucky that the Class of 2026 got to have their “Homecoming.”

I want to thank you all for your support and communication as we close out 2025. There are countless number of phone calls, emails, and conversations had with parents over the course of the school year and the great majority of those are done without hard feelings and negativity being exchanged and we are appreciative of that. We have a line to hold with regard to how students operate in the building and the intent is to always be fair, to listen, to understand context such that behavior changes, problems can be solved, and progress can be made. We also know that you're advocating for your student and sometimes not enough information is shared and misunderstandings can result. Please know that it is always our intent to move the process forward so we can have many more good days at the high school, than we have bad ones, and that we enjoy, much more often than not, the many interactions we have.

I want to wish your family a happy holiday season from all of us here at LHS.
